Edge vs. Ghost

Edge

Haunted oil factory

“Okay, so the scanner is picking up some seriously crazy activity from in here.” I say… to myself.

I walk into the abandoned oil factory. “Is there anyone in here?”

There’s no answer.

“Hello?” I say.

There’s still no answer.

I look at the scanner the professor gave me. Maybe this thing’s just bugged. It was sitting on a desk full of cobwebs and lose wires. It has to be at least 50 maybe even 60 years old. I slap the scanner against my hand.

Ghost

A mysterious visitor

I hear the factory doors screech open. “A visitor.” I close the book in my hands and put it back on the dusty brown shelf. Showtime.

I fuse with the computer in the main hall and talk through the old factory’s speaker system. “Hello mortal.” I turn the cameras to see a woman with short black hair, who couldn’t be much taller than me. No doubt an easy scare. “Are you lost little girl?”

The woman with the black hair looks up at the camera revealing the soul-piercing blue eyes that hid behind her shadowy locks. “My name, is Edge. I was sent here to find someone who goes by the name of Ghost.”

I turn on the large flat-screen television at the back of the factory, revealing my face. “This is he. And why is it you beckon one such as me pitiful Human?”

“The doctor has an offer for you. He wants you to join a group of Human Creatures that he’s forming.” She says.

I glare at her. Comparing one such as me to a Human Creature. “I’m no mere Human Creature. I’m an angel of vengeance sent back to find the answers that my heart longs for. I’m a guardian angel of li—“

The TV screen shatters and I find myself toppling towards the ground, sparks flying all around me.

A power outage? I question.

“I’m sorry to tell you this, but angels and demons don’t exist in this world.” She says.

I flip to my feet before I hit the cement floor. “Tch, a mere power outage.” When I look up, the girl is running at me at full force, with a nail in her hand. “Silly girl. Do you really think that can hurt me?”

She presses the nail into the open palm of her other hand.

I smile. “That’s right. It’s time to give u—“

Blue electricity wraps around her hand as she punches me in the gut, sending me flying. I spin to the ground, landing on my back.

“It’s pretty hard to hit you even with electricity. If my guess is correct, you probably only felt about 20% of that.” She says. “Am I right?”

I stumble to my feet. She hits pretty hard. “So you’re a Human Creature huh?” It’s hard to keep myself from smiling.

A true test of my skill.

“You’re right. I never expected you to be so weak.” I say. I notice a pipe sitting behind her on the floor. I’m close to the wall.

I wave her on.

She charges at me with a kick this time.

I phase into the wall.

She kicks the wall with the outside of her foot at full force. A groan of pain crawls up through her leg, all the way up to her mouth. She hops around on one foot.

I use the wall to traverse my way behind her, pick up the oil pipe on the ground, and smash the oil pipe into her other good leg. The blow knocks her into the air, but she catches the concrete with her hands as she flips backwards back onto her feet.

I’m almost surprised that a look of pain doesn’t crawl all over her face. Instead her eyes just grow ever more striking as her face shifts into a smirk. She presses a few buttons on the bottom of her shoes and electricity shoots up all the way from the bottom of her feet to the top of her thighs.

She comes at me again, this time with a flurry of punches and kicks. I block the lighter attacks and dodge the heavier ones. I wasn’t brought into the royal police force for nothing.

She kicks at me with the white flat bottom of her sneakers, but she’s too far away to actually hit me.

This is an opening. I punch at the bottom of her shoe. As the punch connects with her foot she groans. At least that punch probably broke one of the bones in her foot, I think, but before I can even blink an explosion of light bursts from her heel.

The blast launches me backwards through a pile of junk laying on the ground. I manage to catch my footing. My heels slide along the ground until I reach a stop. “Not bad kid.” I say, but then I realize it. A chill runs down my spine. I’ve lost sight of her.

She kicks her way through the pile of junk between us. I phase through the shrapnel and grab the back of her leg. I toss her to the ground with all the force that my body can muster.

She screams as she hits the ground and pushes her arms towards me. Lightning rushes from her palms tossing me upwards at an angle.

I look behind me and see the security guns. I smile. This’ll be a new one.

Smoke covers the factory.

The girl looks around. “Where are you?”

“Surprise, surprise” I say. “I open fire on her with the machine guns and that’s it, the battle’s over, I’ve won, except I haven’t.

I see a blinding light and the next thing I know, I’m lying in the middle of a wasteland.

The girl that I was fighting stands over me. “Finally awake I see?”

“What happened?” I say.

She turns away from me. “You hit me with a couple of bullets there.” She pulls up her sleeve showing me some scars on her arm. “But unfortunately for you, metal is a better friend to me than you.”

“What the hell is that supposed to mean?” I say.

>“You, hit, me, with, a bullet. My electricity made the factory go boom!”

I snarl at her. “That gun shoots 600 bullets every 60 seconds. What I’m asking is, how are you alive?”

She crosses her arms. “Quick cauterization and even faster regeneration. Plus I deflected most of them with magnetism.” She stabs her arm with a needle from her pocket and a huge electric shield bursts from her palm. "See."

“You should be dead.” I sit up and notice my hands and feet are entrapped by metal cuffs.

“As if.” She says.

I try to phase through the metal on my hands and around my ankles but I can’t get out. I toss my hands in her direction. “What are these?”

“What are those?” She says, pointing at my hands.

“Nah, I was talking about your chest.” I say in jest. “Of course I mean these.”

She grabs the chain of my handcuffs and pulls me forward till I’m inches from her face. “These, are soul silk handcuffs. Unbreakable for you.” She grabs a pin from her pocket and shoves it into her arm, sending a bolt of electricity through the bracelets, stinging my wrists. “Fun for me.” She almost cracks a smile, but her expression doesn’t last too long. She pushes me to the ground and presses a button on the bracelet on her left hand.

A blue portal opens.

“Time to go. Doctor’s waiting.” She grabs me by the chain between my wrists and tosses me through the portal onto a dusty concrete floor.”

“Is this the guy Skinny?” A purple-eyed girl in a sweater says from a rotting old bed in the corner.

“It would seem the team’s all here.” A man’s deep voice echoes next to me. “Glad you could join us Mr. Ghost. Hope you're not feeling a bit green under the gills.”
